Trip Report for the Fawn River in Indiana
Friday, May 4, 2001

On this bright, sunny, warm, beautiful day we paddled approx. 9 miles on the Fawn River from Fawn River Mill Pond (in Fawn River, Michigan) to a take-out at State Rd. 9 (just east of Star Mill public access point). It was a very pleasant paddle, with good current and no places we had to portage or pull our boats. There was even one really fun chute and some good riffles.

We saw 8 deer total, and on two instances 2-3 deer swam across the river in front of us. We also saw lots of jumping fish, wading birds, ducks, Canadian geese and even 2 muskrats. This section of the river goes through mushy, muddy terrain, so there were plenty of mosquitos to annoy us. All in all, though, it was a great paddle that I am anxious to do again.
